Obtaining backstage U2 passes for a friend?
Okay, so, this dude is downright amazing. He's chill, respectful, and a lot of fun. He really looks up to all of U2's members as musicians and people and he definitely wouldn't be a screaming fan boy. I have this (sort of) amazing plan to get him to the concert in June, but it would be more amazing if he got backstage, you know?
He's the best friend I've ever had and he deserves it completely. He's barely seventeen and he's working two jobs, passing school, his dad's dead, and his step dad treats him like s--t. I'm starting a fund (I know, it's totally silly.) to get him to the show and I'm getting it out there that this is happening.
I was thinking I might e-mail the band or something to try and make this obtainable, but how am I gonna go about that? What do I say? How do I address them? Should I tell them this whole story?
Any other awesome advice I could use? Hook me up!

Welcome to Mahalo, freki! He's obviously also a very intelligent dude. And, he obviously has a great friend. I WOULD e-mail the band with the whole story. And, if you or he are also into any of the causes that the band espouses, be sure to mention that. (Maybe offering to put in some eye-catching amount of volunteer time between now and June.) BTW, at the show in AZ earlier this month, they had a bunch of volunteers come on stage holding up masks of imprisoned Burmese politician Aung San Suu Kyi - that might give you an idea. Good luck!
