I use this and it works great. It copies the content of the DVD to your hard drive. If you want to compress it into a video format, you might then compress the files using Handbrake.

I believe the option for you is DVD Decrypter since size is not an issue.
This software will rip (and decrypt) all you want from the dvd WITHOUT compressing it thus keeping the quality intact.
On top of that you can select what you want which features you want to leave out for example audio of other languages or not suitable for your audio system.
There is a nice guide to this software at http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm (it says dvdshirnk but it is about DVD Decrypt)
NOTE:
the software was discontinued some time ago, but its functional and free

I've always had good luck with DVD Shrink for copying DVD's and burning them. It copies everything and the DVD's came out perfect.

"Windows only: Rip and back up any DVD to your hard drive with DVD Rip, a freeware Windows application that automates the entire DVD-to-hard-drive backup process. All you need to do is insert your DVD, run DVD Rip, and let it take care of the rest. Why? A while back I explained why I'd soured on optical media, the gist of which was the ease with with DVDs are damaged. Sick of scratched, skippy DVDs, I put together a simple AutoHotkey script that automated DVD rips in conjunction with a freeware application called DVD Shrink. I've since gone back and drastically improved the original DVD Rip application complete with options and improved automation." I use this and it works great. It copies the content of the DVD to your hard drive. If you want to compress it into a video format, you might then compress the files using Handbrake.
