Some of the programs you installed will start automatically when the Windows starts. This will decrease the system start up speed. To stop such programs from starting up automatically, go to start -> Run and type 'msconfig' and click OK. A window will open. Select the tab 'Start up' and uncheck the programs which you don't want to start automatically when the windows starts.

Defragmenting the hard drives and removing temporary files will help in improving overall speed and performance of the computer.

You can also use free software like Ccleaner to manage start up programs and delete temporary files

I'd use these softwares to clean up your "temporary files", uncheck whatever files that may load upon loading windows and maybe reduce the amount of files on the desktop (it loads on startup too).

I don't really think registry cleaners or defragmenters can help much.

Disk defragmentation might help though.

Also check the condition of your hardware, increase RAM to 1GB and above..

First, download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/
Run the Cleaner to remove all Temporary Files. Then, Perform the fix issues task. Now, click on tools. Then click on "Startup". There you will see a list of all the programs that automatically start up when you start your PC. Disable all those programs that seem unnecessary. This will increase your PC startup speed appreciably.
