I <3 Ubuntu!
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-971660.html
Add this repo:
- For Hardy Heron 8.04 :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/project-neon/ubuntu hardy main
Do:
$sudo apt-get update
And the package is:
amarok-nightly
alternatively:
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-2-beta-3
Before doing that, I definitely recommend Songbird's new release! Give it a shot.

Just download the deb, run it, and click install!
Cheers,
Jayhawk

How can I install Amarok 2.0 on Ubuntu 8.04?
2.0 isn't showing as available in Synaptic. (I have the mediabuntu repository) my current Amarok version is 1.4.9.1
I understand that this is a KDE 4 application, and my windows manager is Gnome... but 2.0 ought to be possible.

i've been looking for an excuse to give songbird a try since i heard of it a week or so ago, thanks. that's probably going to wait until i go to Mepis 8.0 ... 8.0beta6 came out recently, so the real 8.0 can't be too far behind. i'll probably image my Ubuntu drive, save it to a DVD, wipe the HD and start over with Mepis.
Thanks again. I'll pick a best answer before the day is out.
