Is there a way to anticipate the average freeway traffic speed in Los Angeles based on day and time?

I know holidays and accidents affect the Los Angeles freeways, and checking websites just before leaving gives a great red / yellow / green guess of a speed, but it seems some days at certain hours are consistently fast freeway speeds or consistently slow freeway speeds. Is there a way to see what, say, typical friday noon traffic is like? or typical Thursday traffic?

You could go to www.traffic.com to track it live, but I could give you the basics. On the 110, 405, 605, 710, 5 101, or 10, don't go North or West during the morning hours and don't go East or South during the evening hours.

The exact opposite for all the rest of them!!

ha. thanks. I didn't think I'd win this one either. I don't even live there. But I go to LA about once a month and I follow my own advice and do very well avoiding traffic.

I can't imagine it's so easy if you live there and commute, but good luck anyways.

I go to Google Maps if we will be driving in a car that isn't equipped with a GPS with traffic info. The GPS I use (Garmin Nuvi) will rout me around traffic if I so choose.

Totally. I estimate it will be 'slow'.
