A great option for alternative Media is The Real News Network, independent publicly funded journalism.

It should have been noted that the Real News Network is *extremely* far left / Marxist. Just have a look at their "Journalist Committee" members: Gore Vidal, Amy Goodman, Naomi Klein, and Howard Zinn. If you want an anti-American, Marxist point of view - this is the source to use.

Just because you don't agree with their views, that doesn't make them anti-American. I find it quite ironic that you would call Klein "anti-American" considering she's Canadian and has no reason to be pro-American. You also call Zinn and Vidal anti-American, calling WWII veterans anti-American doesn't make much sense, they fought so you could call them Marxists, and Amy Goodman a Marxist? when she has one high awards for her long running program "Democracy Now" which reports on worldwide democracy.

RRN discovered that the problem with commercial news is that they will do what is in the best interest of their advertisers before their viewers. War sells and the Iraq war made the mainstream media record profits, if they actually reported the real story, there may have never been a war. Is that a leftist point of view? Probably to some, but others don't care about the left/right red/blue you/them war or words in the media, some people just want the truth.

Howard Zinn, an open Marxist, has stated many times that the world would be better off without "racist" America (see his book, "A Peoples History of America"). That sort of makes him anti-American. Amy Goodman believes America is a police-state on par with places like North Korea - that kind of makes her anti-American.

Call 'em what you like Kev, I would love to hear more from multiple sources with different political views when the news is being digested. For every 50 military generals on TV talking about how to kill terrorists, you would have 1 anti-war activist saying war is not the answer. I wish there was more balance.

The most important thing to realize about the news media is that all of these sources have a political bias. On cable, CNN and MSNBC are liberal, while FOX is conservative. I really recommend you learn to spot the bias of what ever source you find, amd look for both sides of the story.

I don't get any news from tv because mainstream media is all in Uncle Sam's pocket. I read rawstory.com every day for breaking headlines and alternet.org for investigative journalism. I've also installed StumbleUpon (stumbleupon.com) which lets you literally stumble around the web after you install it and set your preferences. I've stumbled across a great many web sites I never would have seen otherwise.

For example: The Best Enemies Money Can Buy: From Hitler To Saddam Hussein to Osama bin Laden-Insider Connections and the Bush Family's Partnership with Killers of Americans: http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/10_09_01_carlyle.html
