I think it will be well-receieved in the comics-reading community; it is not just kids, by any means, who read comics, and as a whole, the comics community seems to be like fantasy and sci-fi communities in that there is a sense of tolerance and open-mindedness, and a general tilt toward political progressiveness. Besides the many 'openly' gay comics characters in superhero stories, there are many non-superhero graphic novels that focus on LGBT people (including those by Alison Bechdel, whose comics produced Bechdel's Rule for choosing movies). Also, many stories about superheroes (like the XMen Universe) have been considered thinly veiled commentary on gay rights. The comics-fan community is also not all straight men; it has a fair-sized LGBT portion, so overall, Batwoman will probably do fine if the stories and art are well-done.

Yes, there will probably be some people who claim that this is corrupting to the values of children/messing with the American Bat-franchise icon (wouldn't want sexual diversity in a good old-fashioned wholesome story about vigilantes in tight-fitting animal costumes), but this will probably help sales in the short term and do nothing in the long run.

This new Batwoman is not the first gay comic book character, nor is she the first gay DC Comics character. There are plenty of gay/bisexual comic book characters in existence already:

I think it's perfectly fine, and I don't think the public will make any bigger a deal out of it than they have over any of the other characters in that list.

Apparently there was reason she was dropped by DC in the first place. Get a clue!!

I read about this some time ago, is it only being published now? Anyway, I think it will do well. Most comic readers are teen boys and young men and they will like this sexy "lipstick lesbian" as the Brits call her.
