In addition to the 20th anniversary, they're also trying to capitalize on the popularity of Blu-ray, since there was HD footage for half of the season. Profit margins are higher on Blu-ray discs than normal DVDs. It's likely that both season 13 and 21 will be released next year.
So far Fox has only mentioned the 20th anniversary sneak peek as a sneak peek. They haven't mentioned commentary or deleted scenes yet but might when it's closer to January.

In 2009, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of The Simpsons, Fox announced earlier in the year that a year-long celebration of the show titled "Best. 20 Years. Ever." would run from January 14, 2009 to January 14, 2010. Several contests are being run, including the "Unleash Your Yellow" contest in which entrants must design a poster for the show7 and "Best. Couch Gag. Ever." where fans create their own live-action couch gag video.

What's the story on "The Simpsons" season twenty DVD?
So, the Simpsons has released seasons 1-12 on DVD over the course of the past eight years. I was searching Amazon to find out when season 13 would be released when I noticed that season 20 would be released in January 2010.
What gives? Why did they suddenly skip seven years?
Will this set include the commentaries on EVERY episode, the amazing deleted scenes and the cool art and animation bonus features we've come to expect from the past twelve Simpsons DVD sets?

I think this has something to do with the 20th anniversary of "The Simpsons." ----quote----
