Jeff Dunham is a great stand up comedian that does ventriloquism, I've liked hiim for 10 years, and he's all ages.

Demetri Martin is hilarious for a more college-aged crowd

I've always liked more quirky humor, like Emo Phillips or Steven Wright. But for a more hip/popular choice selection, just check out Comedy Central Presents here: http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/comedy_central_presents/index.jhtml

Don't forget about Craig Ferguson. He has a solid fan following on The Late Late Show and also for live performances across North America. In fact, December 15, 2009 is the 1,000th Anniversary of his show with the 1,000th episode of the show. How many standup comedians can say that?
