The Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (aka Cannonball Run) is probably the greatest American highway legend from the car enthusiasts perspective. A no holds barred, illegal race on public roads. Dan Gurney and Brock Yates completed the 1971 event is 35 hours in a Ferrari Daytona, an 80mph average where they "at no time exceeded 175 mph".
