Sounds like too fine a grind or the filter holes are too big. Some grounds is typical, though sometimes less than appetizing. If you were at home and it grosses you out, I'd recommend you try using a colador. Since you're out and about, I'd say they are in a hurry and not timing the grind if you're getting a lot of mud, but a little bit is normal unfortunately. Believe it or not, some people complain when there aren't enough grounds in the bottom of the cup. Heh

If you buy an espresso from a coffee shop, should it have a small amount of grounds at the bottom of the cup??
Or should the espresso be clear of any grounds?
