How come no major coffee chain offers up a more environmental coffee cup lid?

We have recycled stir sticks, or spoons to use, (I even saw long thick raw pieces of fettuccine to use once, great idea!). We have recycled paper cups and sleeves. For times when I don't have my stainless take out cup, why is there no environmental choice for a lid?

Well done gravy...you have just thought up of a great idea which you should put forward to a lead brand of coffee chains like Starbucks.

The main reason is that making a more environmentally friendly coffee cup lid would be more expensive - and therefore making your cup of coffee a little bit more expensive - and the more expensive it becomes, the less customers available. So money vs environment...definitely money will win.

I agree... go tell them. :) If they see a demand for something, maybe they'll do it, but people have to show that demand first.

I agree cjd, but in some 'green markets' like Vancouver and Seattle I can see Starbucks getting a big win by being the first to save a say, corn oil made lid. I guess the problem is heat, you want to make sure that the heat of the coffee would have no interference with the hot coffee. The reason I asked this is that I have seen not one company do this, ever. Its shocking.
