I found blogs and untrustworthy sites implying her mother was either a Filipina or Japanese.
Finally, I found something to dig into. Her own words.
She mentions in a "meet the author" type thing, that she won Miss Little Sto. Nino.
My Filipino friends wrote Saint as Sto and I was aware of a feast they spoke of that had Nino in the name. So I started checking Philipine towns, news and sites.
The GlobalPinoy (I thought that meant boy and Pinay was girl, but I've either messed that up or the many dialects from the many Philipine islands are to blame) calls her a Pinoy to watch in one article and a Fil-Am in the other.
She also participated in her hometown Fil-Am celebration.
So Gabi is Filipino-American and African-American. I don't know which order technically is right, but most things is mother first.

Gabi's father was easy to trace because of his band The Urband Bushmen. He appears to be African American and in his bio on the band's page, he talks about black culture. I found blogs and untrustworthy sites implying her mother was either a Filipina or Japanese.
