I have been fascinated with Christmas trees back when I was a child. And I think my father has got a lot to do with it. During Christmas time he would go with me and my sister into the woods and we will look for the best Christmas tree. We are lucky we live in a small town near the forest full of pine trees and the government allows cutting of pine trees but only the topmost part of it. We are not allowed to cut the whole tree.
When we found the perfect one, my father would cut and bring it home. Then, he will help us decorate the Christmas tree. Now, that my father passed away and I am married and became a mother, me and my husband see to it that we put up our very own Christmas tree together with our daughters. We can see their faces light up every time we put a new decor on the tree and clap with glee when the lights brighten it up.
For me, I think I am just passing on to my daughters what I have experienced with my father for I know how it made me feel. Not so much happiness for seeing and putting up the tree but being with my father, and celebrating Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year.

And they were always fresh pine trees so the smell was intoxicating! Because its hot at Christmas time here the warm weather would make the pine smell very strongly.
We also made our own decorations - painted pine cones, twisted bits of colored paper and some bought ones if we could afford it. And we all decorated the tree, it was always something we did together
Now most of my family are gone, and my children not so interested in trees and decorating ( more interested in friends and parties ). But I still put one up, and I still love to see it shine and sparkle with gold and silver and pretty lights.
To me it represents family time.

I grew up on a farm where we cut and carried the tree back to the house from half way around the paddock :) It was always a big family thing to do with Dad so I loved that time with him. And they were always fresh pine trees so the smell was intoxicating! Because its hot at Christmas time here the warm weather would make the pine smell very strongly.
