Absolutely not! Regardless of what she may have did or said to prompt him to fly off the handle, there is no excuse for a man to ever put his hands on a woman in such a manner.
When I first talked to my 16 year old sister about the incident, she made a comment that seems to coincide with many of the teens polled. It saddens me that teenagers seem to think there are justifiable reasons for a man to hit a woman. It's also sad that kids/teens are seeing celebrities that they admire make such horrible choices.

Winfrey told one teen her take on the Rihanna-Brown situation: "If you go back to a man who hit you, you don't think you're worthy of being with a man who won't."

Was Rihanna at fault for the assault by Chris Brown?
To clarify, I don't think so - AT ALL.
But a recent poll suggested that many teens think she was: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/03/13/many_boston_teens_surveyed_say_rihanna_is_at_fault_for_assault/

I don't think so at all. Rihanna did not do the assault, so Rihanna is not at fault. Chris Brown did it, so Chris brown is an adult who is responsible for his actions. I watched this on Oprah, and it was clear that Chris Brown is at fault. Winfrey told one teen her take on the Rihanna-Brown situation: "If you go back to a man who hit you, you don't think you're worthy of being with a man who won't."

It's sad that people think she is. That poll shows societal attitudes that blame women for the violence they are subjected to. It's never ok to blame a victim. And violence against women will never be stopped if people keep blaming women for it!

Even though new rumors are that Rihanna hit Chris first, there is no excuse for him hitting her. But then again if Chris would have been brought up right he would have never hit her either. I personally hold his parents responsible for this and Brown needs to pay for what he did to her.
