The Idea is one that is great, if you are looking for a lost method a wiki format would be a cheap method and also would get around copyrighting laws and international laws as well, seeing as how these authors would be under the age for certain legal aspects.
As for ideas on funding and/or sponsorship, Google would be a great company with the international resources (legal team, servers, technology, support and translation). Other companies and organizations would be: wikiepedia, Gutenberg, and ebooks.com, unesco (the UN's department of education). Another option would be to contact publishing companies, although they may be less inclined to do such a project without any profit. Universities are also a great place to start with as they would be able to offer much assistance with creating a project like this, as would national geographic

I love the idea of a child being able to contribute to a book that he/she are reading, makes the story ever changing and so much for a child. It promotes learning in a fun manner and helps connect the world in all of the cultural differences.

giantkidsbook.com? Would an ebook writing project specifically for kids under twelve be a good idea?
Imagine an ebook written by kids around the world. It's automatically translated into any language so that all kids can read it. Each kid is limited to ten pages every six months. It's started as a story, and then the first kid continues the story. Would this be possible? google project? microsoft project? united nations project?

That sounds pretty cool... Kids (and adults) could find out more about how kids grow up in other places around the world... from the kids themselves! The editing would have to be a focus though...
You could get a database programmer/web designer to work something out...

I think this is a fantastic idea. Who better to write books for other kids to enjoy, but kids themselves. Not only that, but it would also teach students proper writing skills and cultural awareness. Another idea that is similar, is to create a site like that and offer kids ten pages a month to create and tell their own stories. The webmaster could offer prompts every month, for example: Write a story about someone in your neighborhood/village getting a new pet...

I agree completely with everyone this is an excellent idea. In answer to your question anything is possible. In this day and age you can find people to help you build it and design it. I love the idea of a child being able to contribute to a book that he/she are reading, makes the story ever changing and so much for a child. It promotes learning in a fun manner and helps connect the world in all of the cultural differences.
