What is the finest musical moment in the history of Sesame Street.

There have been lots of great musical moments in Sesame street. From silly songs, to animations, to special guest songs.. the list goes on and on.

What is in your opinion the very pinnacle of these. The single best of the best?

Well, being a 90s child myself I'm sure my answer won't be as popular as others' as I only have memories of what I watched from 1990 onwards...

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE!! :D

Then there's this one... ;)

Asker's Rating:
• Well, the only way to judge this one was to get an expert to choose....

Personally I'd have chosen "I don't want to live on the moon" but I was over ruled by my 2 year old daughter who thought that the singing plasticine was hilarious.

And you can't really argue with a little girl who's made her mind up....

What a question! I've been mulling this over for months now wanting to make the greatest possible Sesame Street video for my daughter.

And I think this has to be the CLEAR WINNER:

I think all of us who grew up on Sesame Street know the people in our neighborhood and can sing that song by heart. There have been so many versions of it, but the above video is one of the earliest. Vintage Sesame Street!

Here are a few runners-up, in a very, very close race:

Just so you know, I did consider "C is for Cookie", which is of course classic and gets stuck in your head really easily. But it looses points for being repetitive and not especially endearing or educational. Cute, but maybe not classic.

I'd completely forgotten about "I don't want to live on the moon"... and hearing it again was amazing.

Ben Stiller still makes me giggle when I see him sing the 'neighborhood' song.

*please note that Ben was not eaten in the video

I have to chose two. One is for pure entertainment value, when Weezer played Keep fishin', and Miss Piggy kidnapped the drummer so Animal stood in.

The other is for actula musical beauty, a song on one will ever forget sung by the star of Seasame street .

Whilst they are indeed awesome songs.... they are Muppets as opposed to Sesame Street, so they can't be considered.

But please, feel free to pick a Sesame Street one.

The people at Sesame Street.org disagree with you, but hey, it's your question:

"Kermit joined Sesame Street in 1969. Funny, ironic, and always the voice of reason, he is the calm in the eye of the storm. Kermit is an understanding, genuine fellow who knows what’s important in life.

http://www.sesamestreet.org/onair/characters/kermit

The muppet clip may have been form the muppet show, so I withdraw that part of my answer, but I stand by Kermit. He was an original Seasame Street character and sang The Rainbow Connection on Seasame Street many times. Don't hate him becasue he's green!! All in good fun.

There are SO many great choices. And, gno's bring back such memories. But the one that has been stuck in my head for some 40 years is Mahna Mahna! (When Cake covered it a few years ago, it was just icing....)
