Chemistry-Question: What was THIS?

Hey People out there^^
I've got a chemistry-related question. The Thing is, that last time we had Chemistry in school, there was some sort of spot on the table, from a unknown chemical product. And when i blowed at it, it nearly disappeared for a few seconds, but then it reappeared in its same size than before, Like I had've done nothing.
My question now is, what was it?
I would think, that this chemical thing reacted with the CO2 or the water of my lung, and then reacted again with the Oxygen of the air.
Finally, we was able to sponge it away with a... sponge xD
So, what was that?

(Sorry for my bad english, I'm from germany^^)

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The properties you are discribing sound like disapearing ink. You are right the spot was reacting to the carbon dioxide in your breath.

thymolphthalein (a common acid-base indicator in the form of a powder)
ethyl alcohol
3 molar sodium hydroxide
water

Why would this not wash away though? All of those things are soluble, they should be very easy to clean off of a table.
