Cheapest way of making a wireless spy microphone and a receiver?

And it's inspired me to make something like that. What would be ideal, though, is if I could make the microphone small enough to attach to my shirt, or a book or something, then put the receiver in my bag. The receiver would then need to be able to save the audio to something like a flash drive.
What's the cheapest way of doing this (not necessarily using a Mr. Microphone), without compromising too much on audio quality? I'd rather not have to run a wire to my bag, but if there's a way of getting the device to save into something small enough that I wouldn't even need a big pack to put in my bag then all the better.
Battery life is also a concern. I'd quite like to get a good few hours of solid recording from it - or at least be able to easily switch the batteries.
Also, what's the least I'd have to spend to do this with a fairly small camera?
Thanks to anybody who helps me out. Should be a fun project =)
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Two possible solutions are based on carrying an object that doesn't resemble a microphone.
One is a pen shaped voice recorder. Looks like a pen so will pass scrutiny.
To find one, search eBay for 'pen recorder' and you'll see a variety from a few dollars upwards. To conceal the pen better, consider carrying a small notebook with a pen holder that you can slide the pen into.
The other is to get a mobile phone, or explore if your existing mobile phone can record audio. Then carry that phone. Ensure that the phone is in 'no-calls' mode or 'aircraft' mode, so that an incoming call or SMS won't spoil the recording.
Even laptops can record audio discreetly. And there are apps that let you start and end recording with keystrokes.
The idea behind these solutions is 'hide in plain sight'. Objects that do not raise suspicion.
