What kind of credit information do cell phone companies require to grant you a contract?
I'm going to get a new cell phone soon. Probably the Pre from Sprint. My current cell phone is in an account in my mother's name. I want to open my own account using my own credit.
I have a stellar credit score. I have my own credit cards, a car loan, and not a single missed or late payment. The problem is I don't currently work. I am a student. I live off my parents, student loans, and summer employment. Do they ask for employment and income information on the cell phone contract forms or do they only ask for your SSN?
If they ask for employment information can I get away with saying I'm a student and my parents support me?

I did this with T-Mobile and they only asked for my SSN. They ran a credit report and verified what my credit score was. They told me I was eligible to have my own plan since my current plan used to be with my sisters account.
It was a quick process over the phone and they will probably ask to speak with your mom for permission to the account.
your stellar credit should work fine.
