Smartphone marketshare in the United States--what is it currently, what is the trend?

Are we all going to be on iPhones, or will we still see a lot of Windows phones? Will android take marketshare?

thoughts?

Okay, let's just say I'm happy with the Nokia N95, and some have upgraded to the N96. I hear about people walk around with Blackberries, those who like the iPhone, the Treos, or Android. There are those who like the whatever thingamaphone that comes out, may it be the Batman phone... There is literally something for everyone. There's even a phone for those who could care less about what they use, the buttons and whistles, as long as it works. There are lots of great choices out there! I believe the trend is something that is not a phone! There has to be something else that will be the latest trend! Maybe we will all go back to beepers or something that people will think is crazy at first, then it will really take off as the next trend. Maybe it's the next bluetooth head piece or something else that we're missing in our lives, yet I believe it's not a phone. Maybe we can call it a walkie-talkie or an attachment that connects to our shoes.

BTW, have you seen this Pomegranate?

Maybe it's this projector phone, have you seen it?

Have you heard of the "paper thin" speaker technologies? Maybe this is where we are headed...

Hey, my subject..

Okay, lets do the basics:

1. First 1 billion devices took 4 years.
2 Second billion took about 24 months
3 3rd billion is showing to take less than 18 months.

as contrast we only have less than 1.75 billion desktop computers worldwide.

SmartPhones generally include ful or close to full web browsers and thus that is iiPhone, Andorid, Blackberry, Symbian S60, windows Mobile, and etc.

Mobile Monday generally collects data from its memebrs in the industry to come up with some stats on this..lets see..urls are:

q1 2008-iPhone(1st), Blackberry(2nd), Palm(3rd)

Currently iPhone just passed Blackberry in sales last qt of 2008 and Android cmae cloes to beating 2nd place Blackberry MS Windows Mobile not even close.

Trend seems to be touch smartphones in the iPhone and Android categories with full web access. hence me targeting that market segment with my own Xspot mobile application.

Honestly unless some platform matches iPhoen or Android they wil end up loosing market share. There are signs now of BlackBerry loosing market share due to its inept close but not full support of a full web browser.

One of the reasons why the Top Software Lead of Nokia allows me to use him as professional reference is my insight into these trends.

Nokia i snot in the running yet, they need to bring more SymbianOS 9 5th edition touch devices and lower the prices to catch up.

In summary iPhone and Android like devies with touch, gestures, full web browsing, gps, and ettc.

Okay, back to code..Have a nice New Years

shareme's linked to the marketshare data, which sounds about right, but I think he's too dismissive of Symbian. Nokia isn't really trying to get marketshare in the US as aggressively as they are overseas. If they started spending on US marketing the way Apple does, they would be a major challenger, because their devices already have better hardware. It's not going to take more touchscreen devices to make it here. The fraction of people who actually like touchscreens as opposed to qwerty is relatively small, according to what I've been hearing.
