How can I receive a text message online without a cell phone?

Is there a way for me to recieve a text message online, without having a cell phone? I don't have a cell phone number.

Most carriers provide a way to send a text message from your phone to any e-mail address, so if you have an e-mail address you can have your friend send a text message to it. Take a look at the attached source for instructions on how to do it based on the cell carrier.

OH, oh, oh... PICK ME! PICK ME!

Both Gmail and Yahoo mail do this freely and easily, and chances are, you already have an account with one of them.

With Yahoo and with google:

*** with google you have to enable it in the labs feature.

I'd set up a Twitter account. Public messages and private direct messages work well with browser based or stand alone software. (almost all free)
