While the above responder is correct that exact directions are impossible to provide without the actual phone model, I figured I should point out that as far as I was able to tell in researching this as a general topic that T-Mobile does not officially support this feature on any phones I could find.

Also, T-Mobile has a "soft cap" on the amount of data you can download at 3G speeds of 1GB which is pretty flimsy if you are wanting to use your phone as a modem to a PC. It still might be worth doing as an emergency measure, but if you are used to a broadband connection it will be pretty painful after you go over that limit.
