I think it's most likely that they were trying to prevent someone from selling it on the internet or to a tabloid. I think that the Jackson childrens' privacy should be protected as much as possible. Their father has died suddenly, and any child in that situation needs time, space, and their family supporting them to grieve. Less importantly, they didn't choose to be famous. Therefore, the public should let them live their lives.

What do you think the hair was confiscated after the Paris Jackson haircut?
Paris Jackson, daughter of Michael Jackson, got a haircut in Las Vegas. After it was completed, her security team snagged up all the hair clippings.
Why do you think they did that? So someone couldn't grab it and sell it for DNA testing or nostalgia? None of the above? Please explain your answer.

I think that the Jacksons are worried about people trying to sell the hair on the internet or the like and making a profit, as well as a spectacle. There is also the concern that the hair might be able to be used in a DNA test, though for this to be effective, there must also be DNA to compare it to.
