What are trace amounts of drugs?

According to the LA Coroner's report Scott Ruffalo had "trace" amounts of cocaine and morphine in his body, but neither was the cause or played a role in his death. How much is just a trace?

I found several artices that referred to trace amounts of drugs in water being measured in parts per trillion, and another article which discussed trace evidence as trilionths of a gram.  Every other source I saw just used "minute" or tiny" without quantification.

A "trace" amount is by definition an amount that is both:
  1. large enough to be detected
  2. not large enough to have any measurable effect

There is no set "amount" that is a trace of something, because the amount that satisfies those two conditions varies both by the substance and by where it is (size/age/gender of person, for example).
