According to Perezhilton.com, she died.

But now they are saying she may be just 'Brain Dead' and not actually dead.

In a word, no. According to the Associated Press, observers said she showed no external signs of injury after the accident. She was "fine" until some time later. This suggests that she is bleeding internally.

While this may cause some amount of brain damage, it is unlikely that the injuries will be fatal. Surgery can drain much of the blood and drugs may be able to prevent some of the damage. Death is only likely if the bleeding cannot be stopped or mistakes are made in surgery- neither is very likely, though there is still a risk.

There have been many false reports and rumors (some reported that she is already dead, and later retracted the statement). The best information available is that this is serious, and will likely result in brain damage. A vegetative state is more likely than death.

Update- she has died due to an epidural hematoma. According to wikipedia (which references Mosby’s Paramedic Textbook, 2nd revised Ed), only 15-20% of people die from this injury.

She probably died due to the fact that she did not receive immediate medical attention. This serves as a tragic warning of the seriousness of head injuries.

The family will most likely have to make a decision on whether or not they want to pull the plug. She is only alive because of life support equipment.
