It is a fact that he suffered from body dysmorphic disorder. He is in my psychology text books. His father made fun of his large nose when he was growing up and he was self conscious about it ever since. He has been constantly trying to fix his nose through surgery making it thinner and thinner.

With body dysmorphic disorder the individual can appear normal to others but they do not see what we see. They see a distorted image of themselves. Often beautiful people look in the mirror and see an ugly person and thin individuals see a fat person in the mirror.

Definition -
Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) (previously known as Dysmorphophobia and sometimes referred to as Body dysmorphia or Dysmorphic syndrome) is a psychological disorder in which the affected person is excessively concerned and preoccupied by a perceived defect in his or her physical features.

The sufferer may complain of several specific features or a single feature, or a vague feature or general appearance, causing psychological distress that impairs occupational and/or social functioning, sometimes to the point of severe depression, severe anxiety, development of other anxiety disorders, social withdrawal or complete social isolation, and more.3 It is estimated that 1–2% of the world's population meet all the diagnostic criteria for BDD.

The exact cause or causes of BDD differ from person to person, however but most clinicians believe it could be a combination of biological, psychological and environmental factors from their past or present. Abuse can also be a contributing factor.

Onset of symptoms generally occurs in adolescence or early adulthood, where most personal criticism of one's own appearance usually begins. Although cases of BDD onset in children and older adults is not unknown. BDD is often misunderstood to affect mostly women, but research shows that it affects men and women equally.

The disorder is linked to significantly diminished quality of life and co-morbid major depressive disorder and social phobia. With a completed-suicide rate more than double than that of major depression, and a suicidal ideation rate of around 80%, BDD is considered a major risk factor for suicide.

I would say he was an addict. He hurt himself physically to obtain painkillers. Addictive behavior often becomes worse in times of stress, when people turn more and more to their substance of choice to deal with daily life. He wanted, in fact craved, attention, but didn't know what to do with it once he had it. He numbed out to escape emotional turmoil, but in order to escape the emotional trauma, he had to cause himself physical harm.

I agree with @redgold... he did that because he's addicted to painkillers and the only way he could get it legally is by being hurt. So he had hurt himself.

However, there's one personality disorder where a user hurt's himself/herself. Hurting one's self is one of the common coping mechanism for people suffers from this.

But I think, like what I said a while ago Michael Jackson doesn't have this disorder. It's just that he's so addicted to painkillers that he ended up hurting himself.

It's called "addiction". People do stupid things, waste lots of money, hurt other people, hurt themselves. Could it be caused by hating himself? Self-defeating behavior?

Where's my 5 cents?

He was addicted when his hair burnt. There are also many other cause thats sue,but these were just for money. He loves child very much but when we said he a child f--ker it touched his heart very much. Then when he lived lonely in middle east we said it a childish behavior. These kills him much.We saw that court gave him escape but we think that he was truly criminal.

Media was another cause because media always covers his news with mixing true and false. They thought about their benefit.

When his man of heart did betray with him he betray he began to untrustworthy every one and took painkiller.
It is true that he was addicted but there was many reason for this.
