What an interesting cat. I have a few ideas as to why - see which ones seems to suit you and your cat :)
If you've had bare legs and the cat slips off or scratches you it may remember that skin and slinky fur or claws don't go together. Has it fallen off your lap with bare skin or a skirt or something?
Jean material is pretty tough and strong, it might prefer that material to slinky, silky or shiny material - it depends on the other clothes you wear. They are also warm to sit on compared to most material
Some material moves around on your skin while you're sitting down and it might not like that under-the-tummy moving. This is my cat - hates to sit on something that moves and NEVER sits on my lap. Jeans don't move around much when you are sitting down, its usually pretty tight and steady.
Some cats don't like hair or skin - not mine but a friend had a cat that hated hairs on your skin, would sit happily until you brushed it with your arm or something....mustn't have liked the light touch of fur and hair :(
Really, I'm thinking its because its fallen off before if sitting on skin or shiny material and has decided that jeans are stable and comfortable and warm.
These are my suggestions and I hope they help.
PS - its been 5 years and my little cat will not sit on me at all, she had a very sore back as a kitten and can't stand to be picked up or sit on something that moves. I have 4 cats at the moment and she is definitely the odd one out.

She will however crawl into my lap when I'm at my computer and wearing jeans. Then she will happily curl up there or have her belly rubbed.
Of course I pretty much am always wearing jeans when I'm at the computer so it might be hard to say if it's the jeans or something else.
My guess would be that your cat identifies something about your jeans with safety.

• I would guess stability, warmth, and memories of good times.
I'm planning to make her a cat bed out of old unused jean shorts. :)

Hmmm...this question got me to thinking! One of my cats is very shy and doesn't like to be picked up. She will however crawl into my lap when I'm at my computer and wearing jeans. Then she will happily curl up there or have her belly rubbed.
