There isn't really a definitive answer. The possibilities out there include:
- The cat is burying the food to save it for later.
- The cat is burying the food because it smells bad.
- The cat is burying the food to hide the fact that they've been there so predators won't track them.
- Cats have scent glands on their front paws and they do it to mark the area around their food bowl as their territory.

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
If my cat paws the ground in front of the cat bowl as if she's scraping litter over it, should I assume she doesn't like that cat food?
The odd thing is, she actually ate some of it before doing that.
