Does anyone know exactly what these so-called politics are with vets and commercial cat food preventing the truth about it from coming out?

I wish my mom was on this site :) She's all into this, and especially about the fact that she believes that pets are being fed pets.

The politics are basically that the FDA allows all kinds of garbage to go into pet food.

On this site, you can get some graphic descriptions of what is in pet food.

And

And..

http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/articles/137/1/Undeniable-Proof-the-FDA-allows-Pet-Food-to-Break-the-Law/Page1.html

I have 4 cats, I feed them regular store bought pet food and they've always been fine, however -- you have to take a look at what they're saying and wonder how much is true, hype, etc.

These stories are not fun to read. My mother makes her own pet food after she claims one of her dogs got very sick due to some of the food that had been recalled.

Anyway, as always - get informed and make your own decision. Sorry I know, not the best answer but it's what I know from both reading and personal experience.

Now the part I cannot answer is why vets don't want this info to come out. In my opinion, it's because they make money off of selling food that they believe is safe. ?

The reason for the politics is money. The pet food industry is a multi-billion dollar world-wide industry.

According to Leda 2006 ( Harvard Law School ) "Americans own more than 130 million cats and dogs and spend over $12 billion per year on commercial pet foods".
http://leda.law.harvard.edu/leda/data/784/Patrick06.html

That's just the US. $12 billion in one year!

MONEY makes politics in this case. Money for commercial pet food companies, money for pet accessory companies, money for vets and 'cosmetic' surgery costing thousands, money for organic food that's just the same as non-organic - check out that fact here - http://www.grist.org/article/checkout-line-kibbles-and-fits/

Buy anti-oxidants for your pets ?? Come on people, thousands of years of evolution and breeding and we need to give a dog an anti-oxidant! Rubbish, marketing rubbish!
http://www.petfoodindustry-digital.com/petfoodindustry/200903/?pg=4#pg10

And absolutely they put cheap ingredients in the mix, you can't make lots of money by using expensive ingredients...a link to a good site about making pet food
http://www.rawfedcats.org/toxic.htm

Our pets can live off table scraps and bones. My cats eat fresh uncooked chicken necks and whatever scraps I have left...gosh they look healthy...no commercial rubbish for my best friends :)

Anyone in the pet industry, from makers of food to vets and show judges, have a stake in the food industry and they don't want to let it go :( Sponsorship, prizes for shows, samples for vets, conferences and holidays away....marketing bribes to keep the industry going....when if you really thought about it, do you really think your pet needs anti-oxidants and organic rice meal????
