Are there any places that would want a dead pet's body for scientific and/or learning purposes? My cat just died, literally..

My cat just died, literally, in the last few minutes. Pointers in the PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, USA area are what I need, however, I am sure other people might have similar needs/desires elsewhere. I don't have a big lawn to bury him in, and don't really want to spend money on having him cremated or anything, and I think a veterinary school, cat organ donation, or something like a body-worlds for pets would be a lot more dignified than just disposing of him in some other way...

I would say that the best place to give the body of a dead cat for free would be to a school of veterinary medicine in your area. I did a google maps search and these are the results that I came up with. I was going to call around for you, but my phone lines are all messed up at the moment. Good luck and sorry about the cat!

I guess vet school is the best choice. However, keep in mind it is Saturday so you may have problems reaching people.
Do not wait any longer and call your vet to ask what is the proper way to dispose a dead cat in your area in case you don't have any luck with the vet school.
Finally, I don't think a lab would want it because their primary use is in neuroscience and organs like the brain and eyes decomponse very quickly.
Sorry for your loss.

Thanks, but I know how to do a basic information/telephone lookup. I'm looking for more specific or certain information, such as a webpage that might specify, detail or give a hint that it is desired, or someone who might have experience with such a thing. My initial assumption is that people generally dissect fetal animals specially prepared for such educational purposes, and as far as dead carcasses of adult animals go -- I'm thinking they might have an unlimited supply from local shelters (although in most cases they would die from euthanization, and not from natural causes.)
