Although the Catholic Church has not made an official statement regarding extraterrestrial life, a number of prominent church members and theologians have concluded that the existence of UFOs does not contradict belief in God and that they could possibly exist.
Here is a very interesting quote:
“The Lord certainly did not limit His glory to this small Earth. On other planets other beings exist who did not sin and fall as we did."
- St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968), canonized June 16, 2002

He also said, "As there is a multiplicity of creatures on earth, so there may be other beings, intelligent, created by God. This does not conflict with our faith, because we cannot put limits on the creative freedom of God."
Although it is not an "official statement," I thought that might help :)

In May of 2008, Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, a top astronomer at the Vatican published "The Extraterrestrial is my Brother" in the Vatican's newspaper. Although he spoke solely on his opinion --he wrote "In my opinion this possibility exists. Astronomers believe the universe is made up of 100 billion galaxies, each of which consists of 100 billion stars. ... Life forms could exist in theory even without oxygen or hydrogen." He also said, "As there is a multiplicity of creatures on earth, so there may be other beings, intelligent, created by God. This does not conflict with our faith, because we cannot put limits on the creative freedom of God."
