Find a friend to help teach you past the first learning curve. Find a flat no traffic area like a parking lot or small road in your neighborhood and experiment. Remember whenever you want to stop or the car is about to stall push in the clutch that's one reflex you want to get right away. Starting from a stop is the hardest part once your past 1st gear it's not bad. When starting in 1st remember to bring the clutch out super slow at first. That will give you more time to react by pushing in the clutch or adding gas to keep it from stalling.
Make sure that the person you choose to teach you is not your husband or your boyfriend. Go to a school if you can't find someone other then your significant other... it isn't worth the fights. Good luck.
Some driving schools still have classes to teach you how to drive a manual transmission. The important thing to remember is you have to be gentle with your movements while shifting or starting off.

Just simply know you can do it and then "Just Do It". In a large empty parking lot or field of course.
There are a lot of videos on youtube that demonstrate how to drive a stickshift car. I would recommend watching some of those, and reading about how a manual transmission works. Then just find and open area to drive and start practicing.
