This is going to come down to personal preference between the cars since they are both excellent vehicles. If I were given the option between the two cars I would lean towards the Lexus (though the BMW would be a nice car to own as well).
I would lean towards the Lexus from life experiences with these two companies. Between my personal driving experiences and friends that have owned both BMWs and Lexus's, the Lexus name wins out just slightly in my book.

You get what you pay for when you buy a Lexus, and that includes a service department that will be at your beck and call. Lexus parts are very expensive though, so that's another thing to consider.

What new car is better? The BMW 335i Convertible or the Lexus SC 430?
Both are hard-top convertibles, 2009 models, the BMW seems to have more trunk space, but the Lexus might be more refined. Any preferences and if so, why?

I don't think you can justify the extra $15,000 for the lexus, go with the BMW, here is a website that compares the two and also compares the audi TT and hte mazda mx5, Looks like the BMW gets slightly better gas milage also, but I don't think you would be buying this car for the gas milage. This site lists all the specs, from what I can tell the BMW is better in the catagories that count

Having talked to many people about their personal experiences with BMWs, they have the tendency to have more parts break at random than the Lexus. You get what you pay for when you buy a Lexus, and that includes a service department that will be at your beck and call. Lexus parts are very expensive though, so that's another thing to consider.

I've driven both cars, and my personal preference is the BMW. Although the Lexus is very nice, and luxurious, I feel that the BMW has a sportier and it's a more fun ride. According to Kelley Blue Book editors, "the Lexus SC 430 "lacks the precise and crisp responsiveness of the BMW 335i." The 335i also gets slightly better gas mileage and it has greater horsepower, so if any of this means anything to you. I would say that there's nothing that justifies paying $15,000 more for a new Lexus over a great BMW.
