... Oh, wait. ;)
When you get to alt.energy vehicles, visibility to pedestrians and other road users is far more important (to me, anyway) than its aesthetic appeal, although of course that's got to be included. Silver works well as it reflects a good deal more light than black - black's fine if you have a loud and unwieldy internal combustion engine, but the single geared Tesla just makes a quiet whine as it spools up to cruising speed. In the evenings and night-time, light colours are a must, along with excellent headlights.
Having almost been run over by a sneaky Prius, this logic comes first hand from a real life experience! How embarassing it would be to be run over by an electric car :D

Red, I believe it is because red is the color it comes in. It stands out the most, and if you have a fast car, it is definitely is going to be hot in red. However, at the end of the day, your color preference for the Tesla Roadster is up to you. I personally think red is hot!

I'd imagine that the batteries peform better when kept at the right temperature, so a colour which is balanced to both absorb and radiate just the right amounts of thermal energy... Metallic Silver? ... Oh, wait. ;)
