I would do the test in a small car with good visibility. You don't have to do it in a car that you own/will drive regularly. Here are the advantages: 1. small car is light and easy to control with light pressure on the wheel and/or pedal.
2. they have good visibility all around, perfect for the maneuverability test.
3. If you get a sub-compact, then the spaces between the poles of the maneuverability test is now much larger than it would be if you were using an SUV, etc.
4. Take as much time as you need on the maneuverability test. It is not a speed test. Hitting the pole is bad.
