Coasting is in neutral, either EOC or engine on. EOC gives you infinite mpg, engine-on gives you high (100-300) mpg.

Do you save gas driving your car in idle when going down a hill or is it better to stay in a specific gear?
I never found an answer for this question, and I'm really curious if you save more gas idling your motor or keeping it in gear when going downhill. Do you know?

What you are talking about is called Free-wheeling. While this practice can, in theory, save you a little gas since your car is not being feed as much gas to move doing so is ILLEGAL. Along with that fact the extra wear on the transmission quickly balances out any savings you might have on the fuel consumption.
