When you have a 'bad experience' riding a taxi, where the driver was rude and greedy.Do you fight with him and make a scene or keep quiet..

and report him to give him a lesson???
A friend of mine rode a taxi.Near her house there is another block to turn to reach the destination, but driver said he can't go that way . After a heated discussion, she decided to go down, paid him but then don't want to give the change, saying "that's it ,you took me to the end of the world,i don't know this area"after more heated discussion, driver did not drop her to where she wanted and also charges her extra than what is in the meter.

I have quarreled with cab drivers who clearly chose a longer route to get more money. I have also quarreled with cab drivers who refuse to break a bill, hoping for a bigger tip. For instance, the fare was $12.00. I would have given the $12.00 fare and tipped maybe $3 max, but after I handed over the $20.00, the driver said he had no change. I demanded my $8.00 change and told him my plan was to give him $3.00 and take the $5.00. He tried it again. When you take a cab, have a pen and paper handy. Or fake it with the palm of your hand if you don't. Sit and tell him you need to write down his information. Tell him he's going to be reported and he'd better not try anything, or it will make matters worse. Especially if he keeps the meter running! If he freaks, and you want to back down, you still have the info and can report him if you want. It's your choice, but would you accept the same treatment from any other resource you pay for?

IF it's a situation like your friend, where the driver is trying to dump you so he can get onto his next fare more quickly, you can lay down and play dead, or let him know that YOU know what he's up to, and proceed with writing down his info. If he freaks and you want to pursue it, let him know you're going to get to the dispatcher with all the points where you were picked up and dropped off. That one worked for me. Yeah, there was a lot of cussing and whatnot, but I didn't have to drag a heavy suitcase a block and a half!

• I just have to put myself into it, because I am too like victoria_reid will quarrel with the driver, cannot just keep quiet and just go down without fighting and saying what I think is right at that moment. Then also go to complain.

thanks for your detailed answer, victoria_reid.

I am sorry your friend had to go through this.

Well, I had experience with taxi drivers, who were rude, would drive in circles and also would try to overcharge me. In these situations I normally pay, say thank you and hope to never meet that person again.

I don't argue because I think my nerves are more precious than money.

My husband, however, always argues. It is a matter of principal for him.

theres no price you can put on health, keep your cool and everything will work out... I live with a 90 year old women that continuously yells and yells at me for no reason and I have to remember 1 thing.. When I keep my cool and dont say nothing back she might be quite after a hour or so.. Another words, if u dont say anything at all maybe they will realize they are in the wrong...

Thanks Mike !

It would be pointless to argue with a rude taxi driver. If I will have the same experience as your friend have, then, I will hold the end of my line and say nothing.
But keeping quiet does not mean I will not do anything. If his rudeness is out of bounds then I would have to report him to proper authorities, like the Land Transportation office and file a complaint against this taxi driver. Maybe they will be able to discipline him and give him a seminar on how to treat passenger customers properly.

Ugh...Taxi drivers...Especially horrid in Las Vegas...We had one guy who was a total perv, rude, nasty sexual comments...yuck. We kept our mouths shut though, but we called the taxi service...kept a quiet conversation in the back with his boss on the phone listening to what this driver was saying. As soon as we exited he was told to bring the taxi back, he was no longer and employee...We got a good laugh out of it, and I sure hope he learned his lesson. :)

I would only complain if he/she tried to cheat me. Otherwise, I think everyone is entitled to have a bad day.

Starting a fight is usually useless. If a driver is rude or unpleasant the best way to handle it is to not give a tip. That's a fair way to get them back and it also hits them where it hurts.

If a cab driver is obviously taking a long route or in other ways running up the bill. Pay the exact amount and send a polite letter to the company the cab driver works for. If you present your case plainly and politely most companies will reimburse you the money you were overcharged. You can also rest assured that the consequences for the driver in question will be a lot more severe than getting into a fight with you.
