What was your first car? Would you buy it again or not? Why?

Just to start things off...mine was a horrid Ford Maverick - 2 door. I asked my folks for a car and my father traded something for this beast. Hated everything about it although I understand they are making them into "muscle cars" now days. Wouldn't own it again if someone gave it to me. 2nd was nearly as bad...an OLD - super tiny Honda Civic.

First car I bought myself, or first used car my parents got me as a kid? My own first car was a Saturn (I think an SL2?) that a coworker sold me at a good price. The biggest problem came when I tried to trade it in for something else and it had practically no trade-in value. Even at the Saturn dealership, 5yr old car, they wanted to give me less than two grand for it. So I went elsewhere and bought a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX - the dealer there gave me almost five grand for the Saturn. I was very happy with that car, and only got rid of it after I was married with kids and had to join the ranks of the minivan owners.

My first car was a 1990 Eagle Summit... as a first car I can't really complain about the thing. It got me from point A to point B without any problems until the day I got rid of it (the transmission went out and dropping $1400 on replacing it was not a viable option for the car since it was 11 years old). Would I own it again? If I was 16 again and someone offered to just give me the car again (it was given to me by one of my mothers friends for helping her buy a new car) I probably would take it. Certainly not the best car out there but at the time, as a young driver, it was a good option.

My first car was a 1987 and a half (yes it was a half) Ford Escort EXP. It was a 4 cyl. 5-speed. My parents bought it for me and no I wouldn't buy it again. While the manual transmission was fun, I don't think I could go back to it. Plus, it didn't really have any pick up at all. With that being said, it did get really good gas mileage :)

I first owned an 72 Volkswagen beetle. I would not buy the current 09 beetle because while it used to be an economy car now it is quite expensive. For that money I believe that I could get something better. The diesel version seems to be pretty good though

My first was a 1969 Karmann Ghia in British racing green, my dream car. I would totally buy it again. If you have a chance to own your dream car, DO IT.

My first car was a brand new 2005 pontiac vibe. It was really spaceous and comfortable for everyone. Trunk space was awesome. All seats folded down completely. It had a front seat that could fold down into a table and an actual 110V plug that I could plug my laptop into. The AC and heat were perfect. It could defrost my iced over one inch thick windows just by using its air vents in less than five minutes.

Would I buy it again? No, only because I really believe fuel will be above $6 within three years despite this insane drop in demand and production still hasn't been able to keep up. My next car will be a hybrid.

I was fortunate enough (read spoiled) that my parents bought my first car, although they insisted it be American, and we agreed on a 1984 Pontiac 2000 Sunbird (I really wanted a Beetle or earlier Accord). It was decent enough and, since it was free, I wasn't about to complain, but I would never own one again. In fact, I have been disappointed with American cars altogether -- from either styling, quality or gas mileage issues -- so I am much happier in a family of Volkswagens and Audis -- you pay a little more but it's worth it!
