I once saw an iguana.. that may not be unusual in some places.. but I live in Alaska. It was a lost pet.

I've seen iquanas near but not crossing the road, but in Belize. In Alaska I've seen moose and cougar cross the road. An iguana in Alaska is pretty surprising all right.

I've seen lots of moose, porcupine, rabbits, and coyotes/wolves are pretty common too. I can say I've never seen a cougar cross up here though.

In the fall one year, my husband and I went to Southern Illinois to visit his folks. It was harvest time, and I had no idea that wooly worms migrate across roads when a field is being harvested. So, here we were, driving down the road, and about a hundred wooly worms inched their way across it. They looked so funny. He laughed at me for having never seen it.

BTW if anyone needs to use my pics, let me know. I took this one just yesterday.

Where I live in New Hampshire there are lots of animals that can be found crossing the roads but we do have a species that although is considered to be secure and widespread that I never expected to see crossing the road last summer. The Snapping Turtle or (Chelydra serpentina) is an unexpected treat to see in its natural habitat and a very rare sight to see crossing the road.



They can weigh up to 70 pounds here in New Hampshire but the one I saw was around 30-40 pounds. We got out of the car to move the turtle but he *would not be helped across* and those jaws scared us just far enough away to let cross at whatever speed he wanted to.

I'm in Michigan, where it's common to see deer, skunks, possums, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits crossing the road.

But let me tell you, even though I know they're around, seeing a wild turkey run across the road always surprises me!

They're a real hazard out here in my county...incidents of car damage from hitting wild turkeys is almost as great as deer damage. And it's not because they're so common (they really aren't), it's because they seem to have a death wish and people are so shocked to see them, they don't always react the way they should.

I've seen a bull moose in canada on the highway. They are as big as a mini van!

Where I live in NJ there was this lady who kept a some tigers:

I was in the area durning the escape and athough I can not be sure it was a tiger on the side of the road, if it wasn't it was the biggest orange and black dog I have ever seen.

We're on the highway going to a 4 hour drive trip, it was already dark and windy, suddenly we heard something hit the windscreen, passenger side (my side). We slow down a little to check what is that, I thought a stone hit us, it was a 'BAT', a small one. It was not visible at first because it was trap parallel to the wiper blade ,and it is blackish in color. We did not remove it until we reached the border checkpoint, poor thing, because we cannot stop the vehicle. I guess it hitchhiked to the same direction as us, it's sad,we reached the destination but unfortunately it did not make it.

I never saw anything on the highway, but I worked on a large gov campus next to a canyon. It was not uncommon to see deers, coyotes and raccoons while you were walking on campus or avoiding trying to hit them in the parking lots. Once we saw a whole family of deers right outside our building eating grass. It was a precious sight.

This might sound odd but.

A coyote !

It only scared me because I was in my convertible a couple years back and I was afraid it might have tried to jump in the vehicle as I came to a stop at a red light.

They very, very rarely are aggressive. But more and more are showing up as roadkill all over the country

You're right ab: It is really sad, and with legislation past last year and the year before they can still be hunted in some states.

They even have a "coyote season" .

I just don't know about all of this, makes me wonder...

I ve encountered an some 4-6 elephants while on a 2 wheeler damn it was then i found out that these creatures r very very scary. Scarier than lawyers

I bet that wasn't in Oklahoma. I've seen elephants in India and the thing that struck me, of all things, was that they can be hard to see! They were moving through the jungle and blended with the trees and shadows. Quite different than a zoo, where they stick out like a sore thumb.

i encountered monkey, rabbit, bunch of cows, 3 ft long iguana, but the least expected was a naked man crossing the road....
