Was it hard to believe that a Ford Fusion Hybrid with $37 worth of gas achieved 1,445.7 miles of travel?

81.5 mpg - 47 mph.

For me personally I find It very hard to believe. That seems like a large technilogical advancement in porformance over a short time. I could see that type of milage in the future but not so soon, so for me it is very hard to believe and very unexpected.

Notice the team travel 47 mph. Most of the power loss occurs during high drag. Why don't you think that high mileage vehicles are possible today? In 1980s there were a number of car brands that topped 40-50 mpg.

The X-Prize offers a million dollars for the car that exceeds a 100 mpg.

I don't really know I understand the friction/drag concept of fuel efficiency but It just seemed like a big jump from the average 20 to 30 some for a good car fuel efficiency. Thats the only reason I felt it hard to believe is because it seemed like a large jump.

I think the report could be a gimick because no one drives 47 mph. Most people are commuting at speeds of 65-75 mph. So boasting 80 mpg at 47 mph does not mean alot.
