in the cockpit and all electronic data from flight controls during every flight. They have a transponder which sends out a signal to help searchers locate them after a crash. The Black Box's in an airplane are designed to record information about the plane and what was going on before the crash. It helps then to determine the reason for the accident. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_function_of_the_black_box_flight_recorder
