1. Shrink the number of GM models and distribution networks
2. Consolidate Engineering Organizations and move towards platforms that can be shared by multiple models.
3. Offer a strong mid car market (Cobalt was a major win for GM)
4. Reduce hierarchies in GM management and move towards a team platform approach.
5. Make pay more equitible between Management and worker.
6. Encourage GM workers to report problems, create solutions, and improve process. Seek suggestions from workers and act on it.
7. Learn lessons from GM China. Move some of the decision making out of Detroit. Work towards faster decision making and quicker results.
8. Figure out what the buyer wants and provide the car efficiently and with the best quality.

1. Declare bankruptcy.
2. Liquidate Assets.

GM has failed, and it has nothing to offer as a company. Some of its parts might be marketable to more modern companies. The quickest way to end the losses and government bail outs would be for it to dissolve. For decades it has evaded the intent of the environmental laws, grandstanded with concept cars that were never produced, and generally brought the industry into disrepute. Enough is enough. It's time to support new, flexible, and innovative companies.
Asker's Rating:
• Why didn't GM move it operations to China faster? If 90 percent of GM cars were created in China could they have survive? Will China offer to buy GM and use the brand too sell Chinese Cars?

Banruptcy does not mean forgiveness of debt. GM will still have to create a working business model. What is the working business model? If you were CEO what changes would you make, immediately?

I did not mean or say the type of bankruptcy that is to restructure debt. I said and meant that the company should immediately declare bankruptcy and let the courts liquidate their assets. I think GM is a failed company that should end now. If I were CEO I would take such steps to wind up the company. Other companies, now small, can and will step up to build the fresh and innovative autos that are needed. Even GM's much ballyhoo'd Volt has pitiful specifications at an exorbitant price compared to the Toyota hybrid, which only needs upgrading to plug-in. The notion that companies should simply keep going forever no matter whether they are useful or not has never been true and should not be.

1. Go bankrupt.
2. Re-negotiate labor contracts with unions, with terms comparable to Toyota.
3. Innovate and come up with new cars with focus on better mpg.
4. Learn from makers like Toyota, Honda and Hyundai.
