Same car family, but not a VW, my Audi A4 had headlight problems every month. I think it was related to moisture getting into the sensor and making it go off. It seemed to only happen after a good rain, or after I washed it.

I have a 03 VW GTI and I have had issues with headlight and taillights since I got the car. There was a recall on some electrical component a few years ago that I had switched out. This did not solve the issue. Also I have gotten countless fixit tickets due to this. I have about had it..
