I don't think the 1 dealer per state model would work, I agree that they may have too many dealers at this point but one per state is too few. Some states are just too large and most customers want a more personal buying experience. Just my 2 cents.

How could GM revive itself by following Wal-mart's business model?
Walmart is a global company which continues to turn a profit.
Here is my idea for reviving GM:
1. One GM dealer per state. Select the largest dealer, as the single dealer.
2. Keep GM engineering and have suppliers build trucks and cars according to engineering specification. Suppliers would bid for specifications. Suppliers could be local or global.
3. Create four super centers for holding inventory: West, Mid-West, Mid-East, and East Zones.
4. Provide a Just-in-Time delivery system and use the internet for pre-order setup.
Do you think my plan would work? How quickly could the plan be implemented.
