However, I do find it is more expensive here, especially if it's under 2 or 3 hours away. In that case, I'd rather just hop on a bus. Might be 20 minutes slower but you just show up, get on, and there are dozens of them every day at convenient times. It almost seems like trains take a bit more pre-planning where as busses are more spontaneous (don't know how true that is, but it seems that way).
When I say I'm terrified of trains, I mean if I'm waiting in a car at a stop and one goes by, I have a panic attack. I can just picture it flying off the tracks. I'll literally stop 2-3 blocks back if I see a train ahead.. Once I'm on one, though, no problem!

Even though I'm terrified of trains from the outside, I'd rather be on one. You don't have to deal with traffic, construction, detours, and you hardly make stops. You don't have sharp turns. It's just a smoother, more comfortable ride. However, I do find it is more expensive here, especially if it's under 2 or 3 hours away. In that case, I'd rather just hop on a bus. Unless they're packed out there isn't room to sit, and they are not even designed for people to stand. :)
I used to greatly prefer trains, but buses seem to have come a long way in recent years, with more room, better comfort, wi-fi, etc.
Trains are still great as long as not full to capacity.
