Next Question
BMW never started a commercial airline company. I've been a BMW enthusiast for years, and knowing about the cars helps me explain this a little further. BMW's mark, the blue and white signifies airplane propellers. However, it started manufacturing engines for aircrafts.
BMW traces its company back to 1913. Karl Friedrich Rapp, a Bavarian who was also an accomplished engineer in a German aircraft company started Rapp Motoren Werke in a suburb of Munich. Rapp Motoren Werke focused on building airplane engines and later found out that they were problematic and vibrated too much.
This is how BMW got its brand with blue and white propellers.

The founding of Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH.
On 21st July 1917, Rapp-Motorenwerke is renamed Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH. The ongoing war means that the small company grows quickly. With expansion in mind, the firm builds a spacious plant right next to the Oberwiesenfeld airfield in Munich and continues to build engines for army planes until 1918.

It did start as an airline company. In fact its blue and white logo is meant to invoke airplane propellers against a blue sky. http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/history.html

BMW did not do that, even according to your source.
