Are you satisfied with your Bose car stereo?

I am definitely not a fan of Bose home theater products, but have heard mixed reviews about Bose car audio systems. I'm talking OEM only. For the record, I appreciate the fact that to get really good sound, you need to go aftermarket. However, for those of use who may not want to mess with the interior of our cars, or ruin the performance/resale value, let's focus only on OEM sound systems.

Here's a link to a few reviews on AskMen.com.

I somewhat disagree with their rating, however, but I will keep other comments to myself as to not bias the answers here...

I had a Bose sound system built into a 2005 Nissan Maxima.

I was pretty happy with it. It required a few specific tweeks in the EQ and balance to get it to sound good, but after that was done, it performed well.

My husband drives a Audi TT with a Bose System. (I however drive the old pick-up truck...lol).

I think his system is very good. We ride with the top down the highway and can hear the music loud and with perfect clarity. We've had no problems with it and it was a used car when he bought it.

If you are an audiophile, most stock systems are just not going to cut it for you. And if you are, Bose? C'mon. That said, the way a lot of them are integrated into the car, it's hard to displace them. I checked out the article you posted, and some notable omissions I noticed are the Linn system in some of the Aston Martins. In more real world cars though, I agree with the Dyn system in the Volvo, VW also has a Dyn based system available, the ML system in Lexus, and not sure if they still do it, but a really affordable car with a great system is a McIntosh system in some Subaru's.

Just so you know my point of reference, I had an aftermarket Alpine/McIntosh/Dynaudio system in my old S80, and currently drive a Lexus with ML (and am scared to try and replace it). My home system is Proceed and Aerial in my main HT/stereo setup.

For the record, I'll give some more context. Of all the OEM systems that I have demoed:

Bose: Nissan Maxima, Mercedes Benz E class, Mazda 3
ML: Lexus IS-F
Logic 7/HK: BMW M3/Z4 (Carver)

The BMW OEM systems have had the best sound so far. By best, I mean could reproduce the sound most accurately, had the deepest, loudest, tightest bass, had excellent mid-range, and had great sound-staging. To be fair, I have not had a chance to demo the other premium OEM systems like B&W (Jaguar), Linn (Aston), Dynaudio (VW/Volvo), Bang & Olufsen (Audi), THX (Lincoln).
