Can you tell me what is so special about Wilton wool auto carpeting? How about Wilton wool vs nylon yarn?

I am restoring a 70s Rolls Royce. Apparently, the hip carpet choice is "Wilton pile wool," which is considered OEM. I don't know what "Wilton" or even "pile" means. I am trying to find out why it costs $3000 for replacement carpet ("It's a Rolls Royce" is a bad answer). What does it look like compared to, say, "Dupont Antron nylon BCF yarn?"

"Pile" in carpeting refers to carpet that is made from small loops, which are either cut or uncut. Wilton is simply a brand name of this type of carpeting.

As for looks, nylon carpets of today will probably look very similar. Some restorers are very particular about having OEM parts and accessories, but if you're ok with having a "good enough" match...I'd go with the synthetic and save some cash. Unless someone was a Rolls Royce expert, they'd never know. Plus, nylon is much easier to clean and maintain.

I know the best answer has already been selected, but I just wanted to point out that wool carpet is a long-standing Rolls Royce tradition. I don't know if you need the Wilton brand or not, but if I was looking to buy your car and I found out it had nylon carpet, I wouldn't pay as much for it (actually, I might just go and buy a different one). In fact, if you can find a more inexpensive wool, that might be the best of both worlds.
