Can you help me identify this "space music" song that aired on a local PBS station years ago?

Long ago, I recorded this song from the radio:

(You can also go to http://oranchak.com/?p=304 and hit the first play button.)

Can anyone help me identify the name and artist of this song?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is a tough one. Sounds a little like Tangerine Dream, but isn't polished enough. I would say a performer inspired by Tangerine Dream, which might put it as being recorded late 70's thru the mid-80's. This is just a wild guess though. There's just soooo much ambient music.

But one possibility is that you were listening to the Hearts of Space. HOS was one of the only places to hear space & ambient music on public radio in the 80's. (If you're a fan of the ambient you probably already know this.)

If that's what you were listening to, and you can narrow it down to a reasonable timeframe, you could listen to all the HOS shows from that timeframe at the HOS website (subscription is necessary).

http://hos.com

Another possibility is to post this question to the discussion group "rec.music.ambient". There may be someone who recognizes the music.

Another place to ask this question is the Ambient Music Mailing List.

http://music.hyperreal.org/lists/ambient/ambient.info

And the last place I can suggest to look for help is the Last.fm Ambient Forum. Its a pretty active forum and you might have your best bet for help there.

I'm sure there are others as well.

Good luck with your search!

That's so cool! I know for a fact that I was listening to that same show when it first aired. I was volunteering at the college radio station at Penn State at the time and listened to HOS religiously. I'm so glad you found your answer!

There is an app for the iphone called Shazam that might be able to do it.

Tried that already. It failed.

However, I recorded another song on the same day I recorded this one. And Shazam was able to identify it as a Vangelis song titled “soil festivities, movement 2".

I don't recognize it, but it does not sound like space music. More like new age, like something Yanni would do.
